The original build was a senior project for Jon in High School. This iteration lasted two competitions: Southern Assault 2002, and the inaugural Robot Club & Grille event in December of 2002. Final record was 3-4.
Specs:
– Drive: NPC 60522 Wheelchair motors with Battle-tread slicks
– Drive control: Victor 883 ESCs
– Weapon: NPC T64 direct drive to 6061 hammer arm. (This, was a very poor choice, as we came to find out)
– Weapon control: Team Delta dual relay switch wired to a DPDT White Rodgers solenoid.
– Battery: (2) 24v NiMH “Battlepacks”, 3Ah each.
– Armor/Frame: 1/4″ Treadplate for base/rear, 1/8″ Treadplate for sides/front
Ultimate failures of this design were the riveted aluminum frame, and the use of tread plate instead of actual good aluminum. After the solenoid got destroyed in its first fight against Aftershock, we didn’t have anything to replace it with at Southern Assault. We were able to get it going again for Robot Club & Grille in December.
